Trastevere still mantains its old roman working class suburb look thanks to its windy roads covered by sanpietrini on top of which medieval working-class houses stand tall. The neighborhood, right in the heart of the city, fills up with romans and tourist both during the day and at nighttime. People flock there looking for the city wonders but they also go there for the richness of traditional trattorias and clubs for all targets. The old architecture releases a vibe of centuries spent walking through the small alleys that seduce and fascinate the visitors. For food lovers here’s our advices on where to eat and drink well in Trastevere.
Trattorias in Trastevere: our top 5
Da Enzo al 29
The first spot we recommend is Da Enzo al 29 (via dei Vascellari, 29). They don’t accept reservations so arm yourself with patience. The culinary roman tradition is respected and enhanced thanks to the use of top notch ingredients. The offer ranges from amatriciana to cacio e pepe, fried antipasto and the roman meatballs to top things off.

Pasta all’amatriciana
Antica Trattoria Da Carlone
We recommend you to reserve your table at Antica Trattoria Da Carlone (via della Luce, 5) especially during weekends when the place is jam packed. The vibe is very down to earth, it features a small room with excellent and fast service. Carbonara and Gricia are the top choices here. The place is not too pricey considered the location and the extremely high quality.
Da Teo
Da Teo (piazza Ponziani, 7) is another trattoria in the heart of Trastevere that we would like to recommend. It’s the classic traditional roman trattoria where you can have the roman traditional dishes but it also features some fish dishes as well. The carciofi alla Giudia is a can’t miss dish! And don’t forget to order the dessert because the tiramisu is super.
Zi’mberto
Zi’mberto (piazza San Giovanni della Malva, 14b) is located right in the middle of the Trastevere nightlife, few steps away from Ponte Sisto. The service is very “easygoing” as the waiters are professional wisecrackers. The pasta dishes are excellent especially bucatini all’amatriciana.
Trattoria degli Amici
Trattoria degli Amici (piazza di Sant’Egidio, 6), is not only a great chance to have a meal in Trastevere, but it’s also for a good cause. It’s managed by Comunità di Sant’Egidio. The trattoria employs food professionals as well as waiters with handicaps. So beyond being a place that serves good food, it’s also a place where you can feel good about yourself while having your meal and glad to help by paying the bill.

Pasta alla gricia
Trastevere culinary tradition: trivia and flavours
The last two spots we recommend in Trastevere are Mama Pasta (via del Moro, 37d) and Glass Hostaria (vicolo del Cinque, 58). In the first trattoria instead of stirring the pasta in the pot, they shake it as if it were a cocktail. In the second trattoria you can try dishes with flavours that come from all over the world but still with strong Trastevere ties.
